Tombow's flagship wood-cased pencil, the MONO 100 was launched in 1967 for the company's 55th anniversary and is named for its high-density graphite core (raised to around 10 billion particles per cubic millimetre). It has a glossy black-lacquered hexagonal incense-cedar body with gold lettering and a white painted end band, carries no eraser, and is sold in 17 grades from 9H to 6B for writing, drawing and drafting. Designed by Takashi Kono and long regarded as one of the finest Japanese graphite pencils; historically made in Japan, with some more recent production reported in Vietnam.
